Hoodie printing methods

There are a few decoration methods available for printing hoodies and they depend on the image type and quantity of the order. Below is some information on the different hoodie printing processes but please feel free to e-mail your design for quotes and advice. We also offer a full in-house embroidery service for hoodies.

Screen Printing is the traditional process for hoodie printing and involves the creation of a silk screen for every colour in the design. Each screen is then printed in sequence onto the hoodie until the final image builds. Due to the preparation time involved in the screen printing routine this process is more suited to orders of 10 hoodies and upwards.

DTG (direct to garment) is a relatively new process that can produce full colour digital images printed direct to the hoodie without the need for screens to be made. DTG is an inkjet technology and is ideal for full colour designs on short runs (approx 20) when screen printing set-up costs would make the cost per hoodie higher.

Transfers are good for a variety of garment types and quantities. There are different transfer papers available for situations when screen printing or DTG can not meet the needs of the order. Transfers are digital images printed onto the transfer carrier paper suitable for the order and then applied to the hoodie or other garment with a heat press.

Vinyl (computer cut) Hoodie printers mainly use this process for 1 off hoodies, stag & hen hoodie and football kits etc; when the design is solid and does not contain shading. Vinyl is ideal for sports jackets or other garments that can not be secured to the screen printing machines due to the padding.
